Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker
My first ever sighting of the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was in the summer of 2021 at the entrance to McNally landing on Prairie Island Road in Winona, Mn.

In mid-May of 2023, I hit the Sapsucker bonanza when I found a feeding/nesting tree at Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge. He was working on a nesting hole (I assume) in a tree next to the small pond near the entrance of the East nature drive. I camped out on the bird on the evening of May 15th and the best shots and video came on the 16th

A female has a white throat.

The male has a red throat

A Sad Ending .... but that's nature!

Immature Yellow-bellied Woodpecker: The "coincidence" continues! Sitting on the back porch....what do I see? An immature Sapsucker!!!
